A challenging text Jun 1, 2017

I'm learning something - not sure if I feel "lifted," but I find it interesting and educational. I don't feel stressed, though it's fairly technical (about coronary bypass surgery and stents).

I’m in between jobs: I’ve just delivered a short but catchy marketing translation FR-PT for a new hotel reservation platform and I’m booked to receive tomorrow a long and urgent translation EN-PT on teens and taxes. I'll be very glad when this one is done!

Will be glad when it's over and done with Jun 1, 2017

Nothing wrong with it at all, but I woke up with a splitting headache and staring at the monitor all day will no doubt make it worse.

A more or less easy-going text NL-DE that does not challenge me but does not bother, either.

Easy, pays well Jun 1, 2017

So, I'm happy.

Yesterday, on the other hand, just the look on my face left my kids walking on eggshells.

But that's history. Today's a new day, and it's a whole lot better.

A bit of everything Jun 1, 2017

Just #GSD (I learned this acronym from a marketing translation for a big B2B client, can you believe that!)

My current project does not affect my general mood at all.
(But I'm always glad when a project is done.)

An extremely boring and long text: consolidated financial statements of a pharma company

Something to focus on Jun 1, 2017

The sworn translation of a criminal records certificate.
Subject is a law-abiding citizen as stated, however the translation must be accurate.

Just a longish routine translation - but a good client who pays well.

So, I'm fine.

I'm currently working on two or three different projects for my main client, and they are all equally enjoyable. We are also improving and replacing some previously used terms, so the end product will be better, which further pleases me.
I also have some academic texts to revise/proof in different areas, and a few articles for a scientific journal for which I am the English reviewer, and all of them are interesting in their own way. Occasionally badly written subject matter can be irritat

Occasionally badly written subject matter can be irritating, but hey, at the end of the day making a silk purse out of a sows ear can be rather satisfying.

The same for (almost) all projects Jun 2, 2017

Of course I'll be glad when it' finished. but I consider most projects I work with are interesting and add value.
Exceptions:
1. Some law documents are quite boring and irritating, given the exaggerated repetitions and the ridiculous legalese ornamented jargon in Portuguese. But we still learn o lot from them.
2. Others are irritating because the documents are written by people who are not qualified to write documents (app makers, engineers, IT people, etc.). But also quite in

2. Others are irritating because the documents are written by people who are not qualified to write documents (app makers, engineers, IT people, etc.). But also quite interesting and profitable.
3. Revisions are always a P.I.A. I avoid them as much as I can. When my documents come back revised by incompetent revisers (the rule), it's also very annoying.
4. Documents from students working in their theses are the worst torture. I sincerely prefer to borrow money from the bank than making money translating this type of document and being forced to make terribly wrong changes required by the clients who think they speak the other language and want us to use the same horrible pedantic words they used with literal translations.

I had to finish a long translation and check it
It was also challenging and boring...
Now it's done and delivered...
