Good day, dear colleagues!

I am writing my PHD thesis "The role of local words in publicistic style (based on Irish, Scottish and Welsh press)".
The material which i am to examine is not very easy to find using web resources (it is mostly because of search resources in search results in my country) only as there is not much LOCAL press samples given.

By now could I only find samples of huge newspapers such as "The Aberdeen citizen", "The Cardiff Times", "Irish independent" etc., but these samples do not fully satisfy my demands and the amount of material is not enough as i have to find "most local" words used in press. By saying "most local" i mean that such words could only be found in any type of printed press in different cities of Ireland, Wales and Scotland. I do not want you to find these words i only ask you if you have any similar material.

To summaries, I seek for any kind of LOCAL printed press material dated in a period of 2005-2020 of any city of Ireland, Wales and Scotland (big or small doesn't matter... Small is even better i think). Press samples may be from the suburbs (it would be perfect!) of the city or even from any local organisation, company... Newspapers, newsletters, magazines, brochures or even flyers - this is what i have to find.
I want to ask everyone who could help me with my work about any pictures or scans or links which could be useful for me - please, share!
P.S. Any publicistic printed material about Brexit period would suite perfectly too

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who may be interested in participating.

Feel free to write here or e-mail me.
Thanks everyone in advance!

P.P.S. Sorry if my topic doesn't fit the branch of forum.

Leinster Express Jan 17, 2020

I am from a small town in the very centre of Ireland, in a county called Laois. Our local newspaper was called The Leinster Express (https://www.leinsterexpress.ie/).

Good day.

Thanks a lot! That is just what i am looking for. It is really helpful!

May be you also have any friends, relatives or colleges from any other cities like yours (I would be enormously thankful if you asked them for any links) or you know any other newspaper names from different cities?

Thanks for help!

Good day, colleagues.
I thank everybody for the contribution! The links seem to be useful for my work while i have still much to do and to examine lots of data to satisfy my needs of local or regional vocabulary.

It would be great if the community continues to share the links.

Thanks in advance!

In Rhondda Cynon Taf, and most of the surrounding counties, we used to have a number of independent local newspapers. In Rhondda Cynon Taf, and most of the surrounding counties, we used to have a number of independent local newspapers. While the print versions still exist on a weekly basis, many of these papers are now owned by MediaWales (owned by Reach) so their online presence is entirely through WalesOnline (which mainly features content from The Western Mail (covers the whole country) or South Wales Echo (mainly covers Cardiff)). There are a lot of stories featured in the local weeklies that are never featured online.

The names of some of these papers are:

The Pontypridd Observer
The Rhondda Leader
The Cynon Valley Leader
The Glamorgan Gazette
The Merthyr Express
The Gwent Gazette
The Rhymney Valley Express

Also in the south east, the South Wales Argus (https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/) is a daily newspaper covering the historical county of Gwent. This is owned by a separate company (Newsquest).

Slightly further afield there is the South Wales Evening Post, a daily newspaper covering Swansea and surrounding counties. Nearby there are also The Llanelli Star and the Carmarthen Journal (both weeklies). These papers all belong to the same MediaWales group with their online output through WalesOnline.

The Daily Post covers stories from across the north of Wales. This is also owned by Reach but has its own website, https://www.dailypost.co.uk/. I think (but I'm not 100% certain) that they own or contribute in some way to other, more local papers in the north.

I know that there are many more local papers covering areas outside of the ones that I have mentioned but I'm not sure about their names or frequencies etc as I don't spend a lot of time in those areas of the country so don't see them in shops.
