After three days of appealing presentations on behalf of the best chefs in the country, sales of market and regional products, dissemination of knowledge about the best wines, champagnes and Catalonian Cuisine, Mercat de Mercats comes to a superb end with some final results that make a third edition likely in the upcoming year.
“The fair has grown and will continue to do so”, according to a statement by the mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, whom visited Mercat de Mercats accompanied by the deputy mayor of Economy, Business and Employment, Sònia Recasens. As for the participants of the fair, the assessment has been very positive and they have shown interest in being a part of the event again next year.
The final figures of visitors show an increase of 30 percent compared to the first edition. An increase that is also reflected in the number of sampling purchases, which has undergone an increase of 20 percent.

Mercat de Mercats has closed its second edition by meeting its goals: achieving better accessibility to the fair, in which everyone has been able to enjoy all it has had to offer and become familiar with Catalonian cuisine in a more direct way. All through the purchase of products from the area, and a taste of a varied offering of our own gastronomy and enology, aside from learning thanks to the advice of distinguished chefs and sommeliers that acted as speakers in the Aula Gastronómica (Gastronomy Hall) and the Celler dels Sumillers (the cellar of the sommeliers)
It’s also worth emphasizing, the presence of recreational activities right in the middle of the Ciutat Vella of Barcelona, such as Havana singing, Castells exhibitions and Sardana dancing, among others, that have contributed to making the fair a unique celebration in the city.
