Forum: CAT Tools Technical Help
Topic: Irregular and unreliable Pastey
Poster: Li-Hsiang Hsu
Post title: Agree regarding Espresso, but what about Pastey?
CafeTran Trainer wrote:

Pastey is from the same developer as CafeTran Espresso. I cannot say anything about the quality of Pastey because I haven't tested it thoroughly.

However, I know that CafeTran Espresso was coded many years before Claude Code et al. existed. It is well-designed, extremely stable, and very fast (even on older hardware).

So no croissants dipped in the espresso...
As I mentioned earlier, we’d better pay closer attention to software developed after 2024, and specifically from late 2025 to the present, because development is shifting massively toward "vibe coding" and agent-driven workflows. For about 6 months, software engineers can no longer even verify their code, as this generates such a workload that agent-assisted production loses all the meaning: the goal of accelerating production deployment and reducing production costs is canceled out by the considerable increase in the volume of checking work required. And sincerely, a great nomber of SWEs don’t like that tedious checking work.

Some veteran developers, like DHH, seem to have gone through a dark period of doubt before having such a revelation: it is time to turn the page on that bygone era when they enjoyed coding manually and rereading their code, to embrace happily the new, productivity-focused reality offered by AI agents.

It is still too early to judge this new reality, but I remain cautious. I think that developers like DHH should, at the very least, be aware of the responsibility they have towards their products, even if their working methods are not questioned. They should avoid making silly mistakes when using AI; and if such errors do occur, they must take responsibility for them. That is all I expect from them.
And my underlying idea is that today, when any amateur can "bake" software at home using LLMs, a true software engineer should be (and is fully capable of) producing work far superior to that of a novice, even being assisted by AI agents. Agent-based workflows should not serve as an excuse to deliver software of merely "good enough" quality, with all those irregularities and unreliable features.

They should do everything possible to avoid such an irregularity, so as not to give the impression of an app vibe coded by an amateur.

The same applies to bakers and filmmakers. They must produce work that is far superior to what we create at home or with our smartphones. Otherwise, no one will pay for their products.
Pastey is from the same developer as CafeTran Espresso. As for software engineers, if they do not verify and fully understand their work, they cannot guarantee that their agents haven't left behind bugs or secretly slipped a backdoor into the software.

[Edited at 2026-09-30 06:40 GMT]

Forum: CAT Tools Technical Help
Topic: Irregular and unreliable Pastey
Poster: Li-Hsiang Hsu
Post title: Pastey - a software built since 2025

My sincere advice: we must be very careful when using software built after 2024-2025, especially from 2026 onwards, when SWEs begin to massively adopt agentic workflows. Before 2025, SWEs still had the good practice of checking code, but now, with agentic work, a fairly large number of SWEs are starting to abandon careful verification of their product. Because AI agents have produced so much code that it becomes impossible to verify, even though the agents' work is not perfect. As a result, we end up with much less robust software, with potentially many bugs to spot over time.

That said, if you have software built before this period, hold onto it. It may well be the last software with fewer issues before AI agents become truly reliable.

[Edited at 2026-09-27 05:03 GMT]

Forum: CAT Tools Technical Help
Topic: Is the RTF file format still alive?
Poster: CafeTran Trainer

RTF was once a very important file format, supported by Microsoft, Apple, and many other companies. In the CAT world, it was a significant intermediary file format for Déjà Vu and other tools.

I was wondering how important RTF still is these days, with nearly all office file formats based on zipped XML.

Do you still receive source files in RTF format?
