Hi Camilla,

Just try to log in using a completely different browser. As far as I remember, a few years ago (when RWS was still SLD) I was unable to log in from my default browser (Imho it was Opera at that time) but I was able to reach the site from Firefox without any problems.

Hello,
I am desperately trying to get my 2nd license reactivated and I cannot do so because RWS is sending me through rabbit holes galore without letting me log into my account via their link "activation support" or similar. I am in my account via Trados itself but that does not help me because my license and download page shows incorrectly that my 2nd license is not available and there is no activation code and there is no possibility (because RWS refuses my login) to get an offline code.
Before reinstalling Trados because it gave a fatal error all the time with none of the fixes working, I had to deactivate this 2nd license. Now I reinstalled and I just want to use it as usual with my Translator plus license -- there is no possibility to contact RWS via email apparently.
Does anyone know what to do?

You can always add terms to the termbase (i.e. the glossary), but generally you can only add sentences to a TM while you are doing a translation.

Well, no, you *can* add sentences to a TM without a project, by taking an existing text and its existing translation and then using a process called "alignment" to add their sentences to the TM, but that is generally something you do in special cases or scenarios, e.g. when you're preparation for a very large project and you know that you will be able to use a TM like that. You wouldn't add sentences to a TM just out of the blue, just to keep yourself busy.

You can either create a new TM for every new translation job, or you can create one single large TM that you re-use every time you have another translation job. Then, while you translate, the sentences that you translate are automatically added to the TM.

What you can do is taking previous work - source and target - and create segments with single sentences, but this only makes sense when your projects are very similar in terms of topics and style. I think you can also import previous bilingual Trados or other CAT files (even Word should work) and create a TM with them - again, if it makes sense.
TB = Term bases = glossaries can be created as well, where you'll only put specific/technical terms in that have been approved/provided by clients and/or are commonly used in a particular context. So you'll not enter "hand" or "morning" but "IP strategy" for example.

You could create a TB outside the CAT tool and import it later, but why would you want to do that?

Typically, you would add project-specific terms. If you create a generic TB for all projects, you will end up with a bunch of false positives (which can result in errors; you can overlook or overcorrect a term if there are too many). Important terms would be missing.

But maybe it's different for your projects

One of the main improvements is that 2026 is finally 64-bit, so it can handle VERY large projects, assuming you have enough RAM.

Another is the new termbase format, .ttb, which completely replaces the buggy old .sdltb system. The new system is still under development, but is coming along nicely.

And there are some other small improvements: e.g., you can change the text size in comments, yay!

Indeed, as people have mentioned here, you can mess around and recreate Studio packages manually, as they are zipped folders. However, this is fiddly and error-prone. YMMV.

In general, I'm super happy with Trados Studio 2026, and it has replaced memoQ as my daily driver. memoQ is just too damned slow these days to use comfortably. Trados still has its failings, but the grid is a pleasure to work in for extended periods.

I’m working on a translation and have enabled the pre-translate function in the project, linking my TM first and then Language Weaver’s NMT. I’m wondering why, when I translate, it accepts the NMT’s suggestions rather than those from the TM (which I’ve set as the first source with a 70 per cent threshold; it won’t let me set it any lower). When I confirm my segments by editing the Language Weaver output, I notice that the segments not yet edited retain the NMT output, so I am forced to replace the NMT output with the result from my TM every time, even though these are very repetitive segments. I’ve chosen to update only my TM and not Language Weaver. Could this be the reason? If I update Weaver, does it affect the ‘confidentiality’?
What would you suggest me to do? Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Broadly, it suggests sentences.

The TM is created by you yourself, while you translate. When you start translating on a project, your TM is empty for that project. Trados then adds your sentences to it. Then, when it encounters a similar sentence, it tells you about it. Sometimes a client will send you a TM that was created/started by another translator. You can also use a TM that you had translated previously.

You have to add terms to the term base manually. Sentences get added to the TM automatically.

Hello every one.

I work ocasionally with SDL Trados Studio 2021 (usually I use other CAT's).
I have this string that has a kind of tags that I can't understand how to insert into the target language:

It has two openin tags, then just one of them closes, then there are other pairs of tags, and only then the first pair is closed.

When I try to simply copy the tag (ctrl+c, ctrl+v), it messes all the formatting.

Could you please help me understand 2 things:

- 1: how to insert/work with these kind of tags

and

- 2: how to activate the function of showing all the information about tags, in order to try to understand what is its function in this case?

I can't remember how I fixed it. But the file in question started with a character that is disallowed in Windows as a file name's starting character (possibly the character was allowed in other operating systems). I think what I did was to rename the original file, before sending it to Trados. But I remember I had to employ some googling to figure out how to rename the file.

Did you put it off and on again? That sometimes works.
If not, turn the whole sheebang off, also the computer, and restart.

I didn't do anything particular, was just translating segment by segment in Studio when I suddenly stopped getting hits from the many term bases I have enabled (14 local term bases). I tried left-clicking in the tick box and also selecting it and pressing Enter, but the tick boxes remain unchecked. What can have happened?

Still using 2022 and will do until it collapses. Indeed, if I need to upgrade, I may just invest a bit more time into work-arounds or another tool.

In 20 years of translating I've never once contacted Trados for support so 2022 being "unsupported" doesn't faze me.

But we need to edit the xml sdlproj project file and modify the PackageProject attribute, keeping everything else unchanged before zipping the package, otherwise the import will fail. That’s a little bit more complicated than simply zipping the package as a sdlrpx.

That’s why I recommend returning merely the translated sdlxliff file and the translated text if the PM accepts. Most of the time the PM is ok with that. But of course, you should have the agreement before starting doing that.

Yes, that is true. But the project file won't be correct.

In case you don't know it, SDL Trados Studio package (*.sdlppx) is actually a zip package. If you don't have Trados to open it, you just need to rename the extention *.sdlppx as *.zip, and unpack the zip file. You will find all package files in that unpacked folder, including target folder with .sdlxliff files for translation.

I then import .sdlxliff files in any compatible software for translation and deliver the translated .sdlxliff files to clients. Most of the time, clients accept them if you can't deliver a return package.

If you work with Python, use zipfile library to unpack that package:

def unpack_sdlppx(path, out_dir):
with zipfile.ZipFile(path, 'r') as z:
z.extractall(out_dir)
path = "XXX.sdlrpx"
unpack_sdlppx(path, "unpacked/")

Yes, occasionally, could help.
But I always managed to handle bilingual files with universal tmx, xliff, xml tools or python libraries for free. That covers almost all use cases. 😉

Translation agencies still swear by it, so in my case they are still extremely important and I'm still waiting for the first agency to even consider to move away from them.
