I would certainly recommend becoming a ProZ.com member. I have been able to get many jobs through ProZ.com. It's "before and after" for a translator who wishes to remain a freelancer. I cannot wait to renew my membership whenever it's due. Think about this: normally "one" project pays the annual fee.

My impression and experience with ProZ.com is positive. I get the majority of my clients from there. I use the services, like the Blue Board and the webinars, I watch the International Translation Day each year. I've spoken to someone from ProZ.com regarding my rates and she was very helpful. I'd say the yearly fee is totally worth it. I think ProZ.com is definitely on the side of freelancers, I think it's a great platform and I'm so glad I found it.

Most of my new clients now come from ProZ.com, and I have to say that fine-tuning my profile has generated some pretty good "matches" (clients that are willing to pay my rates for specific subject areas). I think ProZ.com is a great source of new clients and it is also hugely helpful in avoiding bad payers.

Joining ProZ.com was an investment which paid off very quickly. I became a paying member in 2009, and haven't looked back since. If you invest time with your profile, site facilities, training and events, then after a while good customers will come after you. I've been a member since I started working as a translator 15 years ago (I upgraded to the Pro package a few years later), and I have a generally positive opinion of the site. Of course, many of the offers we receive in our inboxes are for very low rates, but for me that's just one of the many services the platform offers. When you start your career, you get a lot of information on the site, the forum in particular is very useful. You can also access different training courses (I have done a few, most of them were very high quality). When I first started, I answered a lot of Kudoz questions, which gets you listed higher up in the directory, which is very useful because you're then contacted directly by agencies and direct clients looking for translators. I have a few direct clients who found me on ProZ.com, I've been working with them for a long time and they offer very good rates. I don't use the site as much as I used to, but I would definitely recommend it to someone starting out as a translator. In summary, it's a useful tool for translators, as long as you take the time to look at everything it has to offer and use it to your advantage (KudoZ, directory, training courses). It won't do you any good if you just sign up and wait for something to happen, but that's true of a lot of things Oh, one last thing, I came to Translation Mastermind via ProZ.com, and I'm grateful for that.

In my case, an agency found me on ProZ and I got a dream job (10-year full time translation project) which changed my life completely. Later, I found a job post on ProZ which put me into $10K book translation project. Just 2 big ones in years but these were real jewels.
