I am travelling the world with my translation work, so I put up this poll to see if people move from their home base at all? I find the freedom of location independence has to be taken advantage of! I make sure that I rent a nice quite place with good Internet (and air conditioning if required; it's getting into summer in Buenos Aires right now) then I can get great work done. But every 2 or 3 months I take it somewhere else

Depending on the day of the week Now I have enough cell phone chargers and laptop plugs to leave 1 in each location (this was a problem for me in the beginning, I would always forget something).
I prefer the one where I have my own office with a door that I can shut for peace and quiet, and the internet speed there is the fastest! | | | | avsie (X) Local time: 13:09 англиски на француски + ... | Two physical locations | Nov 6, 2008 |
I work from two physical locations, i.e. at the office for my in-house job and at home for my freelancing work

I'm not sure I'm working FROM different locations, but, as an interpreter, I'm definitely working AT many different locations. Unless it's a long-term project (which happens rarely), I'm driving every day to a location specified by my client.

Same thing, I couldn't decide right away which one I wanted to do so I chose both. This might change In time when I get more clients as a freelancer but this dual work is very enjoyable for now. | | | | neilmac Шпанија Local time: 13:09 шпански на англиски + ... | Apart from home | Nov 6, 2008 |

I usually go back home to Scotland at Xmas and take my laptop so that I can work on the way if there are any flight delays, or even just watch a dvd to pass the time.
Then, I can work from home in Scotland with it, or in one of the many cyber cafes, although they tend to be very expensive in UK compared with Spain.
You are right about the distractions though, I do not work as quickly or thoroughly when working away from home.
Another snag with cyber cafes is that they usually only have Open Office, which sometimes gives problems with compatibilities. ▲ Collapse | | | | cisternas Local time: 07:09 англиски на шпански + ... | To wherever I go | Nov 6, 2008 |
I work mainly on my "office" at home. But from time to time, I move to my mother´s home (near town - 120 kms) or wherever I have to go while I am working on a translation.

I mainly work from home in a guest bedroom converted into an office. Like Lori, I like the fact that I can shut the door at the end of the day and forget about work.
When I work from another country, it is simply because I am visiting my parents in France for a few days.
I'd love to work in a café but I'm afraid I'll spend my time sipping hot chocolates and watching people around me instead of working! | | | | Armalite Руска Федерација Local time: 14:09 англиски на руски + ... | 2 main locations | Nov 6, 2008 |

Hi,
I work mainly from home and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (1 to 7 PM), I work from the office where I'm freelance PM.
I decided to do this because I's good to see other people and share a cup of coffee to discuss language topics with colleagues somentimes...
Most of the time, our job is a lonely one, isn't it?

Well, I provide interpreting services, so, for that I must travel to courts, lawyers' offices, etc.
But, as far as translation work, I do about 90% in my office, but, also have a laptop,
and sometimes take my work downtown to a cafe, or, sit no the porch, or go the bedroom with the laptop, must to escape this office.

It is.
This is why I finally bought a laptop.
For a long time I just stayed here in this office.
At least now I can get out a little bit, even when I have work to do. | | | | Grace Horsley Шпанија Local time: 13:09 Член (2008) шпански на англиски | Mostly at home, but... | Nov 6, 2008 |
Although I normally work in my office at home where I have my 'proper' computer, I always take my laptop to the UK with me when I go back to visit my family. I've also been known to take work with me to friends' houses and even on the odd weekend away. I can't decide whether having a laptop gives you more freedom or actually means that you work more!

When working at home I also like to have a change of scenery from time to time. If I still have work left to do in the evening, I often take my laptop into the living room if I'm fed up of sitting in my office all day. ▲ Collapse | | | | Amy Duncan (X) Бразил Local time: 08:09 португалски на англиски + ...
