Went back to university in 2008/2009 to do a Master (MA) in Translation, which I found very useful and interesting though possibly a bit too much emphasis on Theory in my opinion.

Although I'm not really doing it with the expectation of it having any impact on my translation career. It's something I'm just intending on doing for me (although it will be language related).

I am currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Conference Interpreting at Leeds. It's quite intense - it's week four and everyone is already exhausted!
But I'm enjoying every minute of it

It is not a full master's degree, though it covers a lot of the same ground as the coveted MA in Denmark.
Taken part time, it counts as one year's full-time work, and the MA would require two.
Major differences are that I did not do interpreting or write a final Master's thesis, and the thesis would have accounted for half a year's work in ECTS. I have a couple of extra modules in specialist areas.

My thesis was on discourse features of translation, based on 32 samples of published translations from Brazilian Portuguese to English.

How did you pay for them all? I'm estimating my MA will cost me in excess of £20,000. What you have there is the financial equivalent of a rather nice house!

Just being silly. I don't have a postgraduate degree, just a postgraduate diploma which a monkey could have passed (and did, as it happened), so I'm just jealous.
Seriously, though, how can an MA ever pay back on an outlay of £20k?

I have an MA in Italian Studies. I was lucky and got a scholarship to cover the fees, although it was a lot cheaper back then. I can't believe they cost in excess of £20K these days!

The fees are currently at around £9K, if you don't live in the same city as the university you need to add accommodation, in London I'm looking at £6-7K (if I'm lucky) then you have to include living expenses, study costs and other unforeseen costs.
I could probably try for a scholarship, the Arts and Humanities Research Council etc. but scholarships are rather restricted and few and far between.
Of my graduating class, the only people to have gone on (so far) to do postgraduate study are the ones whose parents paid for it outright.

Things changed in the UK a few years ago and students basically have to find the means to pay something akin to the true cost of their course.
In France, tuition fees for a masters are around 250-350 euros a year, depending on the course, the faculty etc., basically 10% the cost of tuition fees in the UK now.

Although my PhD is not directly related to translation, it proves extremely useful in this profession.

Ah, I see. I thought that was just the fees. Even so, £9K is about three times the cost of my course. I was in London too and the living expenses were high even then. I got a "home improvements" loan from an understanding bank manager (I had no home to improve) and a part-time job to cover everything.
Funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council is notoriously difficult to get. Luckily my university had a few scholarships of its own. I don't think I would ever have been able to afford it if I had to pay the fees too.
