I have lots in my office from the local shrine and statues of 'Ebisu,' the Japanese god of prosperity and wealth in business.
I also sacrifice chickens and chant voodoo spells every morning, too. If I had Jedi powers, I would invoke them as well.

But I used to have a poster of Ganesh, which some believe is propitious for business. As long as nobody's getting stoned to death, burnt at the stake or beheaded (etc) for their beliefs, they can have all the rabbit's feet they like chez moi.

Should I get an elephant?
Elephants are good luck symbols any place they roam, especially in India where the god Ganesha is the remover of obstacles and bringer of luck. An image near one’s front door of two elephants facing each other with their trunks facing up is said to welcome visitors to one’s home. Due to their intelligence and long-lives, they also represent wisdom and longevity.

I don't know about elephants bringing good luck, in light of the last U.S. elections, but I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

I always find it odd when people wish me "Good luck with your translation". (Ok - they are just trying to say something nice.)
Would you leave your car at the garage and wish the mechanic 'good luck'?

Can you believe this question was actually posted here? Even if we don't consider the superstition and other foolish beliefs, what on earth does luck have to do with our work?
With 86% of "no" and "I don't believe", I guess we're ok.

“My” elephant is not a political mascot and hasn’t got the slightest resemblance with the one you’re talking about!

Good luck charms, patron saints, Buddhas: all objects to congratulate or blame when things go well/bad in our lives. Because it's nice to relinquish a bit of responsibility for my own life and actions when things go bad.
