: Nick I understand next to nothing about fireams, but I believe "ferrolho" is used only for shotguns, e.g. the old Mauser1898 - neer saw this word used for handguns. OK, so my ignorance on firearms is confirmed.

Generally the automatic pistol has a "ferrolho" (see glock take-down) Abra o ferrolho. Mantenha a arma apontada para a mesma direção, puxe o ferrolho e solte-o com o retém do ferrolho. É possível puxar esse último com o seu polegar enquanto você segura o.

: Absolutely. In pistols, it's called a "ferrolho". If it were a shotgun, it would be a telha or trilha.

Ferrolho and CULATRA (pt/Pt) are virtually interchangeable with BOLT (culatra) action rifles such as mauser, Lee Enfield, Springfield etc. But culatra would not be used with pistols generally.
