Change log

May 8, 2018 11:01: writeaway changed "Language pair" from "English to German" to "German to English"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): philgoddard, Marie Jackson

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Dear Allegro Trans FYI: normally, when just a term is given, one can assume that a general term is required. We do not need the Spanish inquisition for such a task as it won't help in identifying what is requested - at least in this instance.
The source term is pretty awkward imho and it is not in the Proz glossary yet. Hence reason enough to add it somehow. Also I was asking for a wider variety of terms in this instance to help other people who may look for something similar. I see though you are not firm with the topic of dispute settlement and arbitration boards, so why do you even bother replying? Next time just keep that negativity to yourself please. I am looking for productive responses.

Contextless questions produce unreliable answers
Asker hasn't told us at what "level" (international/national/regional/local/within an organisation etc.) this body is being referred to, or which German-speaking country it is from, or given us (as asked by ProZ) a complete sentence containing the term
Björn Vrooman May 9, 2018:
Oh, come on... It takes 5 seconds to get to this when searching for "customer complaint":
https://www.usa.gov/consumer-complaints

Says right there: "Dispute Resolution Programs"

I don't believe you call it a board in this case.

Best

And so on.

Ah, just saw your amendment Thomas ... actually I am looking for a general term..
If you know of US specific equivalents just spill them out... as much as one thing may be less relevant than another , who knows.
This is as much for my own purposes but also to help others - there is no entry for the word in the glossary yet. Also I believe there may be several words for such an institution.
You or anyone who is interested may have a look at this one here:
https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr

And here are institutions EU wide : https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/main/?event=main.adr.show...
thefastshow (asker) May 8, 2018:
Hahaha ok, challenge accepted ... send some my way then writeaway!

I was hoping for some other terms like consumer omnbudsman etc.etc. as the source term is so clonky.... variety is always good and wanted.
Claudia Hoffmann May 8, 2018:
Hi,
My suggestion: consumer arbitration board
writeaway May 8, 2018:
you have no clue? irresistible invitation to provide you with a translation
thefastshow (asker) May 8, 2018:
For dispute settlement, what else? :))
Thomas Pfann May 8, 2018:
What for?

[Added for clarification:] What do you need it for? What do you want to say? Is your text specifically about the German Verbraucherschluchtenschwelle, do you need an equivalent in New South Wales or Arizona, or do you need a term to generally cover all sorts of dispute settlement bodies? Are you writing for Verbraucherschlichtungsstellenfachgebietsexperten or the general public? In other words: What's the context?

dispute settlement body for consumers

Dispute settlement

magyarefk.hu/en/dispute-settlement.html
Dispute settlement | The settlement of disputes between parties, such as between consumers and traders can be divided into two major groups: settlement of disputes before court or out-of-court. Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, too.

neutral AllegroTrans : Wouldn't even bother with GT if asker won't bother to give proper context // no point...

GT is all I'd bother with when Askers don't bother at all
