Searching... It's often a bit of a nightmare!
My first search on 'over' (all fields) returned over 3,000 results, so I narrowed it down by entering -over and 'textiles/fashion' as the field, and then there were many fewer results and the answer was immediately visible.
One mistake is to search for the whole expression; often, just searching on a key word, or the stem will produce results from closely-related terms.
Also, sometimes using Google to search within ProZ.com is worthwhile, as the search options are more sophisticated.

PS: by the way, if you know it's one of your own questions, you ought to be able to find it by looking back in your 'My KudoZ', where you ought to be able to find it if it's not too far back... And of course, it's worth making sure you enter terms also into your own glossary, which is also easier to search in.

thk you toni !!! I remember clearly posting this question BUT I am really bad at find things on Proz. It happens a lot that I ask for something that was already answered but it does not appear when I do the search...

@ Gayle Well found! But the original expression is correct: the pattern is referred to as 'an overcheck', but when it is used adjectively as here, it becomes '8-over' + 'checked pattern'

It should be 8 overchecked pattern. Tony is right, it is a pattern made with 8 superimposed checked patterns, so that all patterns are visible. However, I haven't found the term in French. Still looking...

I suspect it refers to ... ... 8 overlaid grid patterns; however, I don't have specific technical knowledge here, so this is only a hunch. Alternatively, it might perhaps be a weaving term, something to do with how many threads form each stripe or something like that. Note that both plaid and tartan are woven checks, not printed.
