English term

well-lining

English to German Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks convertible topping
Although not used for actual top materials, Sierra grain is commonly used for binding, welting and for **well-lining** coated-fabrics.

Obwohl sie nicht für Verdeckstoffe an sich verwendet wird, sieht man die Sierra-Narbung häufig auf Einfassungen, Säumen und ??? von beschichtetem Material.

Discussion

David Seycek (asker) Sep 20, 2007:
@JC The whole paragraph: Although not used for actual top materials, Sierra grain is commonly used for binding, welting and for well-lining coated-fabrics. This subdued animal-hide grain harmonizes well with many other grains in top materials. General Motors also used this grain extensively for interior trim vinyls during the 1970s through 1980s.
jccantrell Sep 20, 2007:
Hmmm, I read this as "... used for coated fabrics used for binding, welting and well-lining, but I can see your point as well. Darn those ambiguous English writers! However, since this is a vinyl product, I would go with my suggestion.

...
David Seycek (asker) Sep 20, 2007:
@JC Thanks JC, but what I read here is that they’re doing something to the fabric, i.e. they bind it, welt it, and “well-line” it. Or am I missing something?

Fußraumauskleidung

I would understand this in your context to be the coated fabric used to line the footwell in an automobile.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks JC! I went with „Fußraumverkleidung“, which seems to be more commonly used."

Fassungen

Vielleicht kann man es so übersetzen. Ist aber nur eine Idee, denn das ist eigentlich gar nicht mein Gebiet.

Innenfutter

Well lining is an inner lining of something. So in German that would be Innenfutter, imo.

Unless we are talking about 'wells = Brunnen', which is not the case here, right?
Note from asker:
Thanks, Stefani. Your’re right: ragtops, not waterholes.
