Brochure detailing waste disposal plant and what it can process
The total phrase in the brochure (detailing waste disposal plant and what it can process) is "Alimentaire (as de carreau, divers secs...)"
As I understand it "as de carreau" is "Ace of Diamonds". What this has to do with "alimentaire" escapes me.
What would "as de carreau" mean in this context? Insights would be gratefully received.

Refer first to the spot of research in my reference post and then compare diagrams referred to in both. Now read through the description in Section 1.3 Description of the silo on pp 5-6/14 of the English document and you will see why the "as de carreau" or "espaces interstitiels" are referred to as "interspace chambers" in the English version. They are the diamond-shaped inters
I cannot copy from the English either from the site or from the downloaded PDF but I am sure you will find the relevant section and in particular the diagram on page 6/14.
What I am not happy about however, is that the English document, whilst it appears to be accurate in its description, no doubt helped by the diagrams in the document, I can find no original language document using this term in English. Something closer to the French appears here, hence my suggested answer of “silo interstice, star bin”

This pdf I found on the net (www.delta-neu.fr/pdf/plaquettes/40c05f.pdf ) is a bilingual document and may even be yours.
It contains the sentence under a "collection of waste" heading:
1 - Captage de lisières et “as de carreau“ sur machine de conditionnement.
Translation underneath: Trim and waste suction on packaging machine.
Later in the document is your own phrase under "Examples of industries concerned": "Alimentaire (as de carreau, divers secs...)"
It's clear from your context that whatever an "as de carreaux" is, it is some kind of recyclable waste product, which is why I don't think it can be some kind of bin, though maybe it's an expression for the sort of thing that usually goes inside that bin (eg. compost bin?).
The quotation marks in the above indicate it is some sort of shorthand or colloquial expression, which might be a clue why it's so hard to track down.
