I would especially encourage you to try to answer KudoZ questions. This will help you build your research skills and demonstrate your competence to fellow translators.

I get occasional approaches through my ProZ.com profile, which in itself makes it worthwhile, because one smallish job covers your membership fee. I also use the invoicing feature and free website hosting, so it saves me money in those areas. As others have said the Blue Board is useful and could help you avoid some major headaches. ProZ.com also has a very high rating in Google, so your profile or KudoZ questions you have asked or answered (which will link through to your profile) are likely to come up in web searches, thereby increasing your visibility.

One of the main benefits of being a paying member of ProZ.com is having full access to Blue Board information and site forums. What's more, most of my clients have found me via my ProZ.com profile.

I've been a member since I started working as a translator 15 years ago (I upgraded to the Pro package a few years later), and I have a generally positive opinion of the site. Of course, many of the offers we receive in our inboxes are for very low rates, but for me that's just one of the many services the platform offers. When you start your career, you get a lot of information on the site, the forum in particular is very useful. You can also access different training courses (I have done a few, most of them were very high quality). When I first started, I answered a lot of Kudoz questions, which gets you listed higher up in the directory, which is very useful because you're then contacted directly by agencies and direct clients looking for translators. I have a few direct clients who found me on ProZ.com, I've been working with them for a long time and they offer very good rates. I don't use the site as much as I used to, but I would definitely recommend it to someone starting out as a translator. In summary, it's a useful tool for translators, as long as you take the time to look at everything it has to offer and use it to your advantage (KudoZ, directory, training courses). It won't do you any good if you just sign up and wait for something to happen, but that's true of a lot of things Oh, one last thing, I came to Translation Mastermind via ProZ.com, and I'm grateful for that.

Now, thanks to ProZ.com I have many good clients all over the world.Thanks to ProZ.com my dream of becoming a full-time freelance translator has come true, together with a good income. I've been a member since 2005, Plus member since it started. As it's my only marketing channel I'm quite positive about it. I attended a ProZ.com conference in Eiffel Tower in 2010 and met Henry and other ProZ.com people there. I'll use ProZ.com services for as long as I translate. For me, the most useful function is the Blue Board. All of my clients have come via ProZ.com, both agencies and direct clients, even if not directly via ProZ.com but as recommended by my clients.

I would certainly recommend becoming a ProZ.com member. I have been able to get many jobs through ProZ.com. It's "before and after" for a translator who wishes to remain a freelancer. I cannot wait to renew my membership whenever it's due. Think about this: normally "one" project pays the annual fee.

ProZ.com has been the greatest marketing tool I've used. My investment paid off really quickly and now I have more and better clients.

I found ProZ.com quite useful initially (the term search, KudoZ, the glossaries, etc.), but it really came into its own when I became a paying member. Now, nearly all of my jobs come through my ProZ.com profile, and through repeat requests from regular clients, and I can't remember the last time I actually bid for a job.

The Blue Board is extremely useful for filtering out undesirable clients (bad/slow payers) - a feature that is only available to full members, but it is worth its weight in gold.

My fifty thousand word a month assignment has been extended for the whole of July. It's for a very high-profile end client which will be great for attracting future clients. And I love the work. Yesterday I had an email from a new agency, who found me via my ProZ.com profile. This is the third time this year that I've been contacted directly via ProZ.com for work-- and in fact the assignment mentioned above came about in the same way.

ProZ.com has acted as my guide. With my ProZ.com membership, I'm a happy, fully-fledged freelancer and I can safely say that I wouldn't be where I am today without the knowledge that I have gained from the site or the friendly community support network. Thank you!

This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. Kudoz to ProZ.com and their Blueboard for translator and agency ratings!! It's worth being a paying member. I just let a company with late payment know that I was aware they had some negative feedback and that I would add mine by the end of the week if I did not receive payment by then. I also started following their profiles on LinkedIn. 5 minutes later I received my payment via Wise!
