English term

bowls

English to German Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Margaret Thatcher's biography
They escaped her disapproval of music-halls only on summer holidays to Skegness where, living in self-catering accommodation, after exercising in the public gardens they would go to a music-hall and join in the singing. These escapades took place without Alfred Roberts. He took his holidays on his own: a week a year at Skegness to play bowls. As he and his wife were always on call, they could not be away from the shop at the same time.
