A big travel website company, B**king.com, advertise in ProZ for content translation, for only EUR 0.015 per word.
Is it normal rate in Europe? Their office is in the Netherlands.

I've not seen the ad, but if it's true and not a mistake you should tell them where to stick their 1.5 cents

Way too low for translation. Too low even for bilingual checking. Correct for the final read-through of the target text for QA purposes, not that that's likely to be done.

I have seen this ad a couple of times. The funny thing is that they are also super demanding about the qualifications they want the translators to have. It is like the most ridiculous ad I have ever seen.
But since they are publishing their ads so often, I guess they have real problems finding someone. I wonder why that is

c) are they trying for people who won't buy computers and connectivity because they make more planting potatoes, etc.?
d) definitely they want people who won't travel...
You could add any number of unlikely scenarios - under the most favourable circumstances of employment such a service provider would be earning 7 euro an hour. Where's the room for any sort... See more a) not worth even the invoicing time.

(Of course some smart guy has claimed he could do things like that on his smartphone out of the toilet, but that was because he paid his own wifi). ▲ Collapse

You should ask them, whether it is a mistake and should mean EUR 0,15 per source word...
EUR 0,015 are not worth the time to answer such offers!

Just check the "Careers" section of their website...
A bilingual "content specialist" is offered €1,800 per month, gross (in-house position in a big West European city).
A freelance translator, (German into English or English into Polish) is offered €0.03 per word.
The same position for a freelancer working from English into Indonesian is indeed €0.015 per word.

... the fact that they keep advertising here means that they must find the odd person who accepts it, probably only for a short time, until they realise how hideous it is ... and then they advertise again.
I have seen something similar this morning, not on this site, but it might be the same?

But I'm sure they always find someone, and I have also seen some profiles here on ProZ (belonging to experienced and qualified colleagues) where projects amounting to several hundred thousand words for this client are mentioned. Besides, they have quite a positive LWA on the BB, with only a couple reviews mentioning these details...

Logged into the b.com site to look at the details, and I was absolutely gobsmacked. They might as well have put in the job advert "for anyone who doesn't need to pay their own bills". It's all getting a bit depressing.
