but in reality, the fist thing I do is to feed my 16 year old Siamese cat, as deaf as a post, but still very hungry, despite his 3 strokes... then I iron the children's school uniforms and wake them up. I don't check my mail until 9 am... too busy with the family to think about work... G
It used to be turning the radio on, making a pot of tea, taking a shower, breakfast, then e-mail. But now I have to walk the dog first, then feed her, then everything else. No complaints here tho. =) Oh yeah, on the rare occasions when I absolutely cannot avoid using the bathroom first, she gives me the saddest puppy look you could ever imagine...
... which means enjoying some cuddling and chattering with my little son But I admit that before having a kid, I would also have opted for "checking e-mail"... | | | Inga Jakobi Germany Local time: 05:46 Member (2006) Chinese to German + ... I forgot some options, I think | Jan 5, 2007 |
Hi everybody, now that i have read through all your interesting posts, I realized that I really should have given some more options. When I thought about this poll, I actually wanted to give two more answers which were 'care for the children' and 'do some sports' but when I suggested the poll, I simply forgot them. But still there is another option I should have given which is 'praying'. That's really interesting. I have an Indian friend who gets up around 4 am every morning to do h... See more Hi everybody, now that i have read through all your interesting posts, I realized that I really should have given some more options. When I thought about this poll, I actually wanted to give two more answers which were 'care for the children' and 'do some sports' but when I suggested the poll, I simply forgot them. But still there is another option I should have given which is 'praying'. That's really interesting. I have an Indian friend who gets up around 4 am every morning to do his prayers, and that is really impressive to me. I answered 'check email' although the comment Virgile gave is quite convincing, too. Inga ▲ Collapse

Tomás Cano Binder wrote: I answered "Check email", but this is only really so in non-school days. In school days, I wake up about an hour earlier than the kids, and need to be ready by the time they wake up. I only check my email as soon as everything is set for the battle. In non-school days, and specially if my wife does not have to work and can take care of the kids early in the morning, I must confess that I end up doing actual work in the pre-civilised state for a while! I realise from other translators' comments (admissions?) that checking the email is not, of course, the first thing I do. I go to the loo and then have several cups of delicious TEA (being deeply British). Then I check the email and maybe play a little computer solitaire to settle my mind. Then perhaps I'll read something by RICHARD DAWKINS - what a genius! Then, work. I do my dozing in the afternoon. I checked coffee/breakfast, but that's only on non-school days (winter vacation has been lovely, I admit). On school days, I feed the cats, make lunches and coffee, eat my own breakfast, ferry my daughter to school, then take the dog for a walk (she feeds the dog). There are 10 acres of woods with trails close to our house, and it's a great way to wake up. Then I'm ready to work. | | | Andrea Riffo Chile Local time: 23:46 English to Spanish + ... Steven Capsuto wrote: The first thing is trying to figure out where my eyeglasses ended up when I went to bed. (Apparently, they enjoy wandering around the apartment, exploring.) If they don't materialize after four or five minutes of hunting, I break out the emergency glasses so I can see well enough to find the first pair. 95% of the time, I leave my eyeglasses on the exact same spot every night before I turn the lights off... the other 5% of the time, and given that I don't have an emergency pair, I wake up groping blindly and praying to all forces that I don't end up stepping on them (like I did 1 1/2 month ago). If I still don't find them after 30 mins, I search for my contact lenses (which I wear only during summer so I can also use sunglasses). I don't know about Steven, but I'm near-sighted to the point that I cannot cross the street without my glasses because I don't see the traffic light. After the abovementioned oddyssey, I head for my "office" -I use the term loosely- and turn the PC on, then head for the kitchen to boil some water, go back to my "office" and enter the password, head back to the kitchen to prepare a huge jug of coffee, and finally return to the PC to check the e-mail, steaming coffee in hand. | | | Clara Duarte Portugal Local time: 04:46 English to Portuguese + ...
Muriel Vasconcellos wrote: Hi Clara! So it's time for true confessions! I can totally relate to what you say, except that I've suddenly come to the realization that I'm not a mess -- it's just who I am! That's exactly what my husband-to-be says of me: 'that's how you are', but I feel he says that meaning 'ok, you lack order and it's a part of you, but you can do better than that'. And having a little bit of discipline does spare me some trouble, it's true. Especially because I not only work but also am taking a second Bachelor degree in Accounting and Management. My routine these past days has been slightly different as I have to prepare for exams. Some of you mentioned feeding the cats and walking the dog. I have 4 dogs and 3 cats (one of them has showed up on our garden on Christmas Day). I sleep with one of the dogs and one of the cats and they wake me up. I open the door and they'll rush downstairs to the kitchen while I start the computer and read my e-mail. Then I go downstairs and feed the cat is she asks for food and let the dog out. While they're eating and out walking I grab something to eat and go back to the office to work. I guess there are times when I would answer 'Other' too.

I vote other because my mornings are exactly the same as Anne Patteet, take it out numbers 2 and 6, because I only have two kids and I only have breakfast once I returned from school. But really amazing that life of mother's doesn't matter where you're from will always be the same with rush, rush, rush, work, kids, and on the end of the day think what am I going to make for dinner. Anne Patteet wrote: It's quite different for me. "First" thing in the morning I do several things, some of them more or less at the same time like Irene, but not related to work, mail or computers (no time): 1.Try to wake up... Hop in some kind of clothing :l 2.Try to wake up the children (4 of them, all in elementary school)... 3.Help some of them get dressed 4.Prepare breakfast (though they are becoming more and more able to help themselves, yay!) 5.Prepare lunchboxes 6.Try to grab something to eat myself 7.Don't forget to make them hurry 8.Check teeth washing 9.Check that everybody has everything (backpack, lunch, jacket, shoes -yes, with a five years-old it still is necessary) 10.And off, walk to school! 11.Walk back from school (the first real deep breath of the day) 12.Put the kitchen in order 13.Shower (at last!)(second breath of the day) At the end of this, I always feel like I have a full day behind me already, don't ask me why... Then, at nine AM, my other day can finally begin: I sit down at the computer and don't think about the house anymore. Untill I have to think about what I am going to feed the crowd | | | Good to see I'm not alone! | Jan 6, 2007 |
