I am half Danish and half Canadian, almost completely split down the middle. For the most part, I went to school in Canada where I took higher-level English courses throughout High School, so that should be considered my mother tongue while Danish is close to it.
Since then, I've worked in IT related jobs that involved copywriting, layout, documentation, translation, editing, proofreading and so on. I have also worked on some volunteer and personal projects related to these.
I have always had a passion for people, travelling and other cultures, which has spurred me into learning other languages. In addition to English and Danish, I am also partially fluent in Mandarin Chinese with a decent knowledge of both simplified (mainland) and traditional (Taiwanese) character sets. For Chinese translation projects, it is quicker if the source text is digital so that unknown characters can be looked up quickly, but that is not a requirement.
I started learning Mandarin back in 2009 and have been active in the Chinese community since then in Canada, Denmark and Ireland.
Other languages I have a limited ability in are Japanese and French. I am currently working to improve my Japanese language skill (while not neglecting my Chinese) with help from my Japanese wife so that I can translate quickly and reliably from that language as well.
