Mon cher Ingarden,
J’ai lu avec grand intérêt les articles que vous m’avez envoyés ; surtout l’article sur la causalité
avec ses conclusions assez surprenants.
Je crois que vous avez raison d’affirmer que le mouvement-état, dans sa persistance temporelle sur causale, peut seul sauver la temporalité du processus. Aussi de tout temps a-t-on, plus ou moins vaguement, introduit le phénomène du mouvement – changement qui ne change rien dans la causalité (cf. paradoxes de Zénon)
Mais notre négative quantique de la continuité du changement (mouvement circulaire par saccades et, nécessairement sur mon polygone et non sur un cercle ) mais nous amener à rien également le continuité du mouvement inertiel lui-même. (sinon, on aurait des changements continues de distances), la continuité du groupe de vitesses qui, êtes aussi, devraient être quantifiée, admettre donc un mouvement saccadé – que donnent alors le principe d’inertie ? - et au surplus, pour la réalité physique une influence de la vitesse sur la longueur ; et cela non pas dans le sens Einsteinien; mais également dans un sens quantique, du ondulatoire : une barre tournante autour d’une de ses extrémités devrait effectuer des espèces de pulsations afin de décrire le polygone.
Tout cela me semble, d’ailleurs, impliqué dans la physique quantique dont les difficultés actuelles proviennent probablement du refus d’abandonner la continuité.
Mais le pauvre espace Euclidien, l’espace de Newton et de la science classique, qu’est ce qu’il devient dans tout cela !
Il est “néantisé” - d’ailleurs, il n’est que du néant le plus curieux de l’affaire c’est que les physiciens quantiques abandonnent la causalité. Et vous, au contraire vous arrivez à la quantification par souci de sauvegarder celui-ci !
Si vous vouliez écrire un papier plus élaboré que celui que vous m’avez envoyé, avec toutes les conséquences que votre analyse implique, nous pourrions le publier dans la Revue de Met. et de Morale.
J’ai été très fatigué cette année – la Ri-vie Paris Chicago, ???, enseignement, perte des vacances -, à un tel point que j’ai du renoncer aux congrès, même à celui d’Amsterdam, pour me réfugier à la montagne ; en septembre je retourne encore une fois à Chicago pour le terme d’automnal (jusqu’en janvier).
Mme Kronska m’a confié le MS de la traduction de votre travail sur le tableau. Je l’ai lu avec un très grand intérêt, mais j’ai du le lui rendre pour réfection. Le texte était dans un état imparfait : trop littéral, mot-a-mot. Il faut qu’elle le refasse, seule ou avec l’aide d’un français.
Après quoi, nous le renverrons encore une fois avant de le donner à Bayer.

My dear Ingarden,
I read with great interest the articles that you sent me; especially the article on causality
with your rather surprising conclusions.
I believe that you are right in asserting that the movement-state, in its temporal causal persistence, alone can save the temporality of the process. So, consistently, we have introduced, more or less vaguely, the phenomenon of movement – a change that changes nothing in causality (see Zeno paradoxes).
But our negative quantum of the continuity of change (jerky circular motion and, necessarily on my polygon and not a circle) but also leads us to nothing in regards to continuity of the inertial movement itself. (otherwise it would be continuous changes of distances), the continuity of the group speed which, are also present, should be quantified, so to admit a jerky movement – then give the principle of inertia? - and in addition, for the physical reality, an influence of speed on the length; and not in the Einsteinien sense; but also in a quantum sense, of the wave: a rotating bar around one end should carry out pulsation elements in order to describe the polygon.
All this seems to me, for that matter, involved in quantum physics, whose present difficulties are probably due to the refusal to abandon continuity.
But the poor Euclidean space, Newton's space and classical science, what becomes of it all!
It is "nothingness" - moreover, it is only the most curious case of nothing that quantum physicists abandon causation. And you, on the contrary, you arrive at quantification for the sake of protecting it! If you wanted to write a more elaborate paper than the one you sent me, with all the consequences that your analysis implies, we could publish it in the Met. and Morale Review.
I was very tired this year – the International Relations – Life Paris Chicago,???, teaching, lost vacation – so much so that I had to give up the congresses, even the one in Amsterdam, to take refuge in the Mountains; in September I will return to Chicago for the fall semester (until January).
Ms Kronska gave me the manuscript of the translation of your work from the blackboard. I read it with great interest, but I had to give it back for corrections. The text was in an imperfect state: too literal, word-for-word. She must translate it again, alone or with the help of someone that is French.
After which, we will return it to you again before giving it to Bayer.
