The sand is undergoing the following processing steps:
Sand feed towards the process plant:
The sand, excavated in the quarry, is transported by trucks to the new plant, and discharged into a feeding hopper. From this hopper it is fed over a screen and through a jaw crusher, for diminution of frozen sand lumps in wintertime, and then transported to the processing plant with a belt conveyer. There it is buffered in two storage bins.
Mill attrition process:
From the buffer bins, the sand is fed into an attrition mill and mixed with water, to wash away clays and organic materials in between and adhered onto the sand particles. The rotation of the mill is creating a grinding effect between the sand particles in the sand/water mixture. As these clays also contain some iron (Fe), the washing out of the clays already will lower the Fe-content of the sand.
Coarse hydraulic classification:
In this step the coarser sand particles (>500 µm) are eliminated as much as possible, by means of hydraulic separation: the sand pulp is poured into an upward water flow, where coarse particles will settle down easier than smaller particles. The coarser particles concentrate in the bottom of the classifier, whereas the finer particles flow over into a fine hydraulic classifier.
Fine hydraulic classification (2x):
The device is the same as in the previous step, but the purpose is to remove the ‘fines’ (100 µm) will settle down and concentrate in the cone of the classifier. The ‘fines’ are further overflowing into another hydraulic classifier to recuperate coarser particles that ended up in the overflow together with the fines.
Heavy mineral removal by gravitational spirals:
The sand pulp is gravitationally flowing downward the helix shaped spirals. The heavier minerals stay at the inner side of the helix, whilst the remaining sand pulp stays at the middle or outside of the helix. At the bottom of the spirals the heavy minerals are removed.
Wet sand storage: Fines, Coarse sand and heavy minerals are stockpiled outside.
Dewatering table filters:
In the previous stages impurities have been removed and the sand is classified; now the water has to be separated from the sand pulp. The first step is to remove the water mechanically. The sand pulp is spread out over filter cloths. A depression created under the filter cloths pulls the water out of the sand pulp.
Drying installation:
After filtering the sand pulp, the remainder of the water is removed by drying (evaporating the water). The wet sand from the filters is dried in a rotary dryer.

Далее он накапливается в двух бункерах хранения.
Процесс оттирки:
Из накопительных бункеров песок подается в оттирочный барабан и смешивается с водой, для того, чтобы вымыть глину и органические вещества, находящиеся между частицами песка и на их поверхности. Вращение барабана создает эффект трения в смеси песок/вода. Так как глина содержат железо (Fe), вымывание глин снизит содержание железа в песке.
Гидроклассификация крупных частиц:
На этом этапе крупные частицы песка (>500 µm) отделяются путем гидроклассификации: пульпа проходит через восходящий поток воды, в котором крупные частицы оседают быстрее, чем мелкие. Более крупные частицы собираются на дне классификатора, в то время как мелкие частицы проходят далее в гидроклассификатор, отделяющий более мелкие частицы.
Гидроклассификация мелких частиц (2x):

На предыдущей стадии из песка были удалены примеси, затем он прошел процесс классификации; теперь необходимо отделить воду от пульпы. Первый шаг – механическое удаление воды. Пульпа распределяется по тканевым фильтрам. Пониженное давление под тканевыми фильтрами вытягивает воду из пульпы.
Сушка:
После фильтрации пульпы, остатки воды удаляются путем высушивания песка (испарение воды). Влажный песок из фильтров сушится в вращающейся сушильной установке.

I am an English --> Russian translator with a professional history of more than 10 years and a degree in linguistics. My main experience has been with translation agencies. Documents I have translated include all sorts of manuals, operating instructions for different types of machines and equipment, material safety data sheets, annual reports, legal documents and marketing brochures.
I spent almost 2.5 years at the construction site helping specialists from Belgium, Germany, France and Russia to understand each other during quartz sand mining and the construction of a processing plant. Also I’ve translated all the technical documentation for the imported parts of the plant (cyclones, conveyors, dryer, etc.), all legal and financial documents, annual reports, mining and geological documentation.
For almost two years I've been translating news articles for an investment company in the UAE.
