I was seriously beginning to worry last week, when I started receiving only 2-3 emails in my spam folder overnight. I thought - if that's happening, I may not be receiving some genuine messages addressed to me.
Then I read this on the BBC website this morning. Unbelievable how the closure of one company can have such an effect:
Spam plummets as gang leaves net The closure of a web hosting firm that is believed to have had spam gangs as clients has led to a drastic reduction in junk mail. Two US internet service providers have pulled the plug on the firm McColo following an investigation by the Washington Post newspaper. Anti-spam firm Ironport has seen junk mail levels drop by 70% since McColo was taken offline on 11 November. But, it warned, it will be a temporary respite from the menace of spam. "It is an unprecedented drop but will be a temporary outage as the networks move from North America to places where there is less scrutiny," said Jason Steer, a spokesman for Ironport. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7725492.stm
Oh well, so it's a short respite, but let's enjoy it while we can!

This seems to be true, usually I get some 70 messages. Hope it lasts for a while.

I have been very proud of my Yahoo mail for a very long time, spam was down to something like 1-2 per WEEK, and occasionally I would see that a genuine message addressed to me was the ONE in my spam folder.
After the global financial crisis started showing its teeth a month or so ago I have been getting something like 4-5 spam mails every day, people offering me to earn a quick buck or a fortune by doing almost nothing.

They kept pestering me as well. I found it funny to observe the hundreds of different formulations for this idea, even thought about making a little best of. Now I was astonished to see the constant announcements that my "tool" would be a giant tomorrow cease so suddenly. So this is the reason – thanks!

I can report the same. I was getting a lot of spam these last few months (after never having been affected at all) and now it's down to one or even none a day, thank god. What a scourge and a spoil of a great form of communication. Track them down, close their sites and hang 'em high.
