No Feb 8

Over the years, I have exchanged mails and had telephone conversations quite often with a few, whatsapped with two or three, but we’ve never met in person…

Yes, at least one :) Feb 9

... if you are visiting Panama, let me know. We might meet, as well

I don't think they exist Feb 9

It's a big AI-driven application using thousands of artificially created profiles, designed to make me believe that there are people out there.

Yes and no Feb 9

Does a Zoom meeting with Henry and Becca count as in person? It certainly made them come alive as people in my mind.

I think it would be great if we had regular online tea breaks on Zoom or similar. We might mostly be introverts but it would build a better sense of community I think.

And maybe prevent situations like the “other” thread which I’m still debating whether or not to look at this morning.

Many Feb 9

I could write some name here:
I attended 5 powwows and I organized 2 (one of them was in NY, so I met Usa colleagues). It was amazing.
I have good memories.
Oh and in 2011 I also met in person Lucia Leszinsky in a powwow in Rome. Nice person Lucia

A few Feb 9

My wife and I met a few at the 2010 ProZ.com conference in Prague, including Attila Piróth.

North Feb 9

I went up to the north of England to give a presentation about risk and financial translation to a gathering of (non-JP/EN) translators. We went out for drinks afterwards and at the bar we went to I met somebody from the forum, rather unexpectedly. I'm afraid I had already enjoyed a good deal of wine at the time, so I may not have made much sense during the brief conversation we had, but it was nice to see somebody in person.

Powwows Feb 9

I met several colleagues during Powwows, but now meeting people in person seems to be out of fashion. I'm apporaching my 60s and I saw relationsships changing (not getting better) over the years.

Yes ... Feb 9

... but not specifically organised through ProZ. I know many translators in the Netherlands and have had IRL meetings with my translator association, informal meetings with members of a big Dutch Facebook translator group, and some individual meetings with translators in my area. I'm sure many of them are on ProZ as well.

Only once, and it didn't go well. There are one or two habitués of these forums that I would advise not to run into me. You'll recognise them by how they respond to this post.

As for

I think it would be great if we had regular online tea breaks on Zoom or similar. We might mostly be introverts but it would build a better sense of community I think.

I am sure we can make that happen. We have a platform for live networking sessions. People can dip in and out as they wish, break up into smaller groups. Want me to get to it?

I can check when it isn't in use for official webinars and other events.

Yes Feb 9

Yes, twice at a Powwow and twice by accident at another translators' association meeting. And of course there are people on ProZ.com that I knew from before I saw that they are also on ProZ.com.

I'm up for it but I don't know how many others would be interested. It might be an idea to start a separate thread floating the idea to get a discussion, as not everyone looks at the poll threads.
