Hi! We are in the process of translating a Dutch document and need some help in translating specific terms:
What would be the correct translation of "Uittreksel uit het geboorteregister". Would "Copy of the birth certificate" suffice?
Also, is there a better way of translating "Burgelijke Stand"? We have always translated this into: "Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages".
Then, we are having trouble with assigning the right terms to stamps and seals. Is a "stempel" a seal o

Thanks!!

IMO, you would be better off asking your questions via the KudoZ interface. Click on the "KudoZ" menu above, and choose "Ask Question".

Good luck

Those questions ought to be asked thru KudoZ.
I will delete this posting later today.

Voor ik antwoord geef op je vraag naar "The right terms to stamps and seals" eerst even kijken waar we over praten.

1 stamp = A stamp or postage stamp is a small piece of gummed paper which you put on an envelope or parcel befor you post it to pay for the cost of the postage. Dit is en postzegel

2 stamp = A stamp is a small block of wood or metal which has a pattern and/or a group of letters on one side. You press it onto a pad of ink and then onto a piece of paper in order to produce a mark on the paper. Dit is een stempel

6 seal = A seal is something such as a piece of sticky paper or wax that is fixed to a container or door and must be broken before the container or the door can be opened.

Succes,

Meturgan

Dear IProbe, Nov 25, 2004

De eerste twee zijn goed vertaald. Ik zou voor verdere juridische terminologie (Ned-Engels) kijken in het Juridisch Lexicon - The Legal Lexicon van A. van den End. Handig boek met veel info.

Ik gebruik ook Kluwer's Introduction to Dutch Law for Foreign Lawyers ed. Jeroen Chorus et al. Handig als je juridische vertalingen doet en wat meer info wil hebben over de Nederlandse wetten.

Ik weet niet zo veel van zegels, maar iemand anders gaf daar een heel goede uitleg over.
