Hi all,
I need a VAT number of some company in the United Kingdom. I am not able to locate a site, where I can find this.
Can you advise, if such a registry exist or not?
I found only http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/ but there is just registration number, not VAT number.

I don't think there's a list of VAT numbers, but you should, of course, be able to get it from that company.
Not sure whether that helps you...?

I mean, I know you can check if a VAT number is correct and existing (all EU countries). Here is the link:

All customer have to give your their VAT number.
"You can verify the validity of a VAT number issued by any Member State by selecting that Member State from the drop-down menu provided, and entering the number to be validated."

In the UK it is not compulsory to register for VAT unless the annual turnover exceeds £56,000. Small translation agencies, for example, might fall below this threshold.

Exactly. It's worth noting, of course, that businesses who have opted not to register for VAT (even if they don't have to, they can register) cannot deduct input tax on business purchases. IOW they have to pay VAT just like a private person.

Both 2004 links are no longer valid. You can now confirm a Value Added Tax number of any member European state here http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/.
After Brexit, however, the U.K. will no longer listed.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to start with a company name and get its VAT number, except to ask the company itself.

After Brexit, it is no longer possible to check VAT UK numbers on the VIES system.
You need an application dedicated to the verification of UK VAT numbers.
