Revision marks - are they stored in a table?

Using Word 97, I would really like to get an overview of the revisions that have been carried out in a massive document.
The revision marks are all there, but I have to go through them one by one and it would be much simpler if there were a way of getting the same info in table form (timestamp and user name would be enough for my purposes).
What do I want it for?
I want to demonstrate how much work I had to put into editing the document as the client has contested my fees!

Use balloons Feb 17, 2005

I do not remember if Word 97 has the balloons feature, but just in case:
In the Tools menu,
-select Options and then
-select the Track Changes tab.
If there is a Balloons section:
-select Always in the option Use Balloons (Print and Web Layout).
Return to the document and you will see all your changes, deletions and additions, each inside a balloon on the right margin of the document and a line that goes from the balloon to the text you edited.

It is very impressive and it really shows what you are looking for.
Again, I do not remember whether Word 97 has this feature.

No 'balloons' in Word 97 Feb 17, 2005

Hi Anthony,
AFAIK there is no summary function in Word. Word 8 (part of Office 97) did not have the 'balloons' which were introduced in Office XP.

To see a summary of changes made, you could use specialised software such as DeltaView - contact me through my profile if you would like me to run a comparison.

Best regards,
Ralf

An alternative to Word Feb 17, 2005

You could make two copies of your document, one original (reject all changes) and one modified (accept all changes), then use a program such as Beyond Compare (http://www.scootersoftware.com/) which does produce reports.
There is a demo version available, too.

I may have the answer Feb 18, 2005

but I'm only halfway there.
Hopefully this will lead to a nice solution for more people than just me.

I downloaded a demo application called Metadata Assistant http://www.payneconsulting.com/_Resource/downloads/metadataassistant.exe . Its intended function is to CLEAR all metadata from files before they are sent out. So for example a comment by a company sales director in a sales agrrement such as "I can't believe they want to spend so much money for this outdated product of ours" would be deleted automatically. For these functions, the price is US$79
However, there are intermediate reports which give me the data I'm looking for in the demo version.
My question about how best to use the info it provides this is in a separate posting - it's about how to import XML data into Excel...
