Reasonable rate for online tutoring

Dear All,
I am new to online tutoring and would be grateful for information on an acceptable/reasonable hourly rate for intermediate French /English online tutoring and any other pertinent advice you can provide based on your experiences. FYI- tutoring will be FOS not general/conversational.

Rate for expertise, not unit time cost Oct 10, 2018

Specific tutorial fee should be evaluated based on expertise, not hourly cost, since it is not a manual labor cost.

I take Japanese lessons at $50 USD/hour, though this is in-person. Still, it's hard to imagine paying much less for one-on-one tutoring in anything, and that sounds like a starting point.

Now, you're probably not going to be able to command this rate if you're in a university setting. And if you're working in your domestic market, you're also going to have to compete with tutors working locally, in which case everything we say here goes out of the window.
