With the consul generals of 5 major trading partners - including heavyweight economies - France, Germany and China among others decrying the precipitous 80% decline in foreign language teaching assistants in Scotland someone should take notice. How can the government plan for Scottish students to study two foreign languages and to develop the skills to enhance customer relations with foreign customers, suppliers and others while cutting back on the resources to enable this outcome? How can the government plan for Scottish students to study two foreign languages and to develop the skills to enhance customer relations with foreign customers, suppliers and others while cutting back on the resources to enable this outcome? It's a strategy to make themselves irrelevant to the global economy. The more so if scant resources are tied up in promoting Gaelic as has been noted. That age old wisdom sums it up nicely - it all sounds penny wise and pound foolish. ▲ Collapse
