Hi everyone!
A client has asked me to do a voice-over in Spanish for him. I told him I've never done it before, but he still wants me to do it. I have no idea of how you charge for this kind of job (by the hour, by the word?) and how much to charge...
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!
Maria

"You don't know how to do it."
Don't do it, believe me.

You should charge your normal hourly rate + studio costs + travel time & expenses. That's what I did the first few times. You won't get rich or anything but at least you'll cover your expenses (actual expenses and time spent) and, perhaps more importantly, gain precious experience. And please don't forget you need to practice before recording.
By the time you take on your third voiceover job you'll have developed a pretty good sense of how and what to charge.

Thanks Eva. I don't think I will be doing this permanently. I work full time for a dairy company, but one of the agencies that is preparing our Information Security material is also preparing a training course for our employees and they are not happy with the voices they tried (I really don't know why though... there was a guy who sounded great and was obviously a professional. I guess they want a female voice or probably a known voice).
Thanks again!
Maria
