French term

pont d'adhérence

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering adhesives
This is from a 1 page technical data sheet.

[Brand name] est un pont d'adhérence prêt à l'emploi pour enduits hydrauliques, béton, plâtre...également une résine d'addition dans les mortiers

[Brand] is an (adhesive) ready-to-use bond for hydraulic, concrete and plaster sealants and coatings. [Brand] is also a resin additive for mortars

What I have so far. Just want advice as to whether this is bond or sealant or coating or all three here. Do I need to put in "adhesive" or can I omit if using "bond"?

I have googled and looked in Proz glossary without definitive answer. TIA

@gallagy2 I don't think so.
Yvonne Gallagher (asker) Dec 19, 2011:
I also wondered if "render" might work?

Thanks Kashew! Do I need to add "adhesive" to this?

agree B D Finch : With your answer, not your explanation!// Nor that explanation, as Linguee is a hotch-potch of good and bad translations and stuff found there usually needs to be cross checked.

tack coat

The translation that follows says nothing, but the name of the product speaks plenty!

TACK-WH est une emulsion copolymerique a base d’esters acryliques, specialement developpee pour servir de pont d’adherence entre le beton et le mortier nouveau-ancien.

TACK-WH is a co-polymeric emulsion based upon acrylic esters, especially designed as an adherence bridge between concrete and new-old mortar.
http://www.acescolor.es/en/catalogos/fibras-resinas-y-liquid...

Google "tack coat" + mortar + concrete and you'll find loads of examples of a tack coat being applied before repairing holes in concrete with mortar.

@Gallagy2 - If "adhesion/adherence bridge" exists in English it's new to me. I suspect it's simply translatese.

The descriptions below correspond to what I would call a "tack coat", i.e. an interface between two coats or surfaces of different kinds/ages. "Tack coat" might not be entirely appropriate for cementitious/plaster products, though it is certainly said of bituminous and resin materials.

Note from asker:
Hi Bourth. I found a translation for similar product which gives "adhesion bridge" (a bit like "adherence bridge" above) and then "bonding + tack coat" for "enduits". "Enduit" in glossary as "- coat" including entries from your good self. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.
thanks for that Bourth. Appreciate it. Reason I queried this was that the rest of the product translation was so good it didn't appear to be translatese!. Also because I have both "enduit"/"enduisage" and the "pont-" on the same line in a few places. Hence, the need to differentiate between them.
going to post COUCHE D'ADHÉRENCE as question now. That way, if you just copy/paste above there will be a separate glossary entry and I'll be able to award points to Kashew and you
awaiting your "tack coat" answer for "couche d'adhérence"question.

Take a look at Sika products for use of this term
Note from asker:
thanks Richard, it's a good site. I ended up using both Kashew's and your formulations, but, since he was first he gets the points.
