English term
tentative “start and stop” approach
English to Spanish
Medical
Medical (general)
I'm translating a true/false questionnaire on I.V. and cannula insertion and just came across this sentence:
A tentative “start and stop” approach to PIVC insertion can injure the vein and cause bleeding.
I'm sorry there's no more context. Does anybody have any idea of what it refers to by "start and stop" approach? I've looked it up and seen it in other contexts but the meaning doesn't seem to fit in here.
Thank you so much in advance!

Comment: "I think I'm gonna go with this option since it's the most self-explanatory for a non-specialised context. Thank you!"

técnica/método de tanteo "empujar-parar"
Técnica utilizada para limpiar el catéter.
start/stop - stop/start

Example sentence:
Note from asker:
Thank you so much for your answer. Maybe in specialised settings I'd leave it as the original but I think the quiz is addressed to a non-specialised audience. I do think this refers to the IV insertion and not to the catheter cleaning process though. Thank you anyway! :) |

my 2-cents' worth... :)
