Spanish term

Contención institucional

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy escuelas secundarias
Habla de contención a nivel abarcativo. Incluye support y control social.

Por eso, support la descarté.

Pensaba en contention, pero se usa esta palabra aquí?

Gracias!

Daniela Dib (asker) Oct 25, 2017:
The text is from Argentina, where secondary schools are compulsory by law.
Contención in this case is used to refer to those cases where schools (although compulsory) play a role of social controller or sthg like that. Control of students (to avoid social risks) prevails over a good education.
I hope I am clear.

I think it may be contention.. instead of containment.. I cannot find any reliable material on this.

thank you!
Robert Forstag Oct 25, 2017:
“Institutional containment” Unless the context clearly refers to an institution that minors are obliged by law to attend (as in the reference David has offered), you probably would want to avoid using this term.

Spanish term (edited): contención institucional / contención a nivel abarcativo

structural containment / comprehensive structural containment

It is not clear which term you want defined, but here are a couple of ideas.

See the following reference for use of “structural containment” in an educational context:

Daniela:

“Contention” in English means “dispute” and therefore will not work here. See https://www.google.com.mx/search?q=contention&rlz=1C9BKJA_en...

And your clarification simplt confirmss my suspicion that “institutional containment” should definitely NOT be used here, given that it suggests an environment of criminal incarceration (i.e., as if the imstitution in question were a juvenile detention or reformatory).
