whose side
Another option, and very common, in my experience. E.g. Draw a square whose side is 5 cm. In a line, draw five squares whose sides are all 50.

: “Whose” always struck me as peculiar, a geometric shape not being a person. But like you say, common.

on a side
I think this is how it would normally be said, in U.S. English anyway..

: Hi Tom, not criticising your suggestion at all, but would you mind giving an example of how this phrase should be used? Thanks, that's useful!

Sure, it would go something like, Draw a square 100 on a side. Normally, it would probably say, Draw a square, 100 cm on a side. Or if you're just drawing on cross-section paper, Draw a square, 100 units on a side.
