: depends very much on the school level. In high school the نصوص subject involved more than mere comprehension; it was also about the analysis of text and the study of its various elements, struture and style. I would go for "literature and poetry"

in this case it maybe safer to stick to the literal translation. but I wouldn't go for "literature and poetry" as that would be directly translated as أدب وشعر which is NOT what the asker is after

That is what it was in my school in Egypt. I wonder if it means the same thing in \"Al Azhar\". Mona´s \"comprehension\" is also a viable option because usually the selected texts used are followed by questions to evaluate how well you understood.

I agree with you but is there an English work that encompasses poetry and prose? As far as I remember we used to have one subject at collage which is poetry and prose was included in this subject
