The key word is "Bazë" Hello all, while I agree with both girls that we are speaking about knowledge on math, operations and reasoning/logic-ing, but when we speak of numeracy inn reality we are speaking only of the base concepts and skills of children (nowadays we only say children as it is not longer common to talk about adults needing also numeracy lessons, skills) in using, communicating and making sense of mathematics in a range of everyday applications; the ability to explore, hypothesize and reason logically. Numeracy is taught only in Elementary. In the IB schools where I teach we start at K-grade. So I definitively stick to the "bazë" concept regarding numeracy. I even would say that it is more about dituri rather then just njohuri. Some times it only seems a game of words but there is often a relevant difference when choosing the words.

What numeracy includes Actually you are right, Roland. Basic skills of reading and interpreting statistical data through tally charts and other graphs are taught from Year 3 in England. Also the name of the subject has changed from Maths to Numeracy in the recent years.

Statistika dhe probabiliteti Klemi, edhe statistika e probabiliteti nisin me konceptet bazë e më pas kalojnë në ato më të komplikuara. Djemtë e mi, edhe pse janë në klasë të pestë e të gjashtë të shkollës 9 vjeçare, studiojnë pikërisht kapituj të statistikës dhe probabilitetit.
Vërtet në përkufizimin që sjell Enrique për termin "numeracy" flitet edhe për statistikën dhe probabilitetin por nuk specifikohet se ç'shkallë e tyre përfshihet në "numeracy".

I respect your opinion but I do not agree with it. My disagreement is based on the definition and the examples provided for all of us from Enrique:

Do you think that statistics which is the science of making effective use of numerical data relating to groups of individuals or experiments is the a,b,c of Mathematics? Statistics deals with all aspects of this, including not only the collection, analysis and interpretation of such data, but also the planning of the collection of data, in terms of the design of surveys and experiments. Njohuritë bazë të matematikës Unë mendoj se këtu bëhet fjalë pikërisht për njohuritë bazë të matematikës siç themi për njohuritë bazë të gjuhës (abc-ja). Pra pajtohem me përkthimin e Elvanës.
Po të flasim në përgjithësi për "njohuri matematikore", siç mendoni ju Klemi, këtu mund të përfshihen jo vetëm ato bazë por edhe ato të shkallës së lartë e abstrakte.
Në ndihmë, në këtë rast, na vjen edhe fjala tjetër e ngjashme në anglisht "literacy" (njohuritë bazë të gjuhës, alfabetizim)
