Point at which something fails
The shear point is the point at which a product (usually metal but can be any solid product) breaks.
Ie a 8mm bolt has a shear point of (say) 23ton which is the tonnage which will shear (snap) the bolt. Before the bolt (snaps) shears it will bend without fracture, this is called its elasticity which is measured in percentage.
So a bolt may have elasticity of 15 percent and a shear point of 23ton.
Compressional is the opposite to elasticity.
Elongation is when a bolt etc lengthens longitudinally (stretches)
