English term

transitional design

English Other Furniture / Household Appliances furniture styles
"Set includes a transitionally styled sofa perfectly complimented by a matching chaise".

What in the world is a "transitionally styled" sofa, or anything else for that matter? Does it refer to a specific time period, like colonial, antebellum, post-war, etc., or it means something different?
Thanks in advance

marriage of traditional and contemporary

Transitional style is a marriage of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics equating to a classic, timeless design. Furniture lines are simple yet sophisticated featuring either straight lines or rounded profiles. Fabric can range from graphic patterns on overstuffed sofas to textured chenilles on sleek wood frames.
