Hygienic Design Guidelines
The section is about pumps used in fluid handling systems. There is a table listing the limitations of the pumps in terms of cleanability. Two columns on the table are titled "by CIP" and "by breakdown" side by side. Below them, there are boxes ticked/unticked. The left column includes pump types and the right column includes hygiene weaknesses. I guess "by breakdown" means when the pump is to be cleaned etc. in full detail or as completely demounted, but I have not been able to figure out what "by CIP" means. Please help...

"CIP" is a system to clean the components "in place" meaning that there is no need to take them out of the line.
I think "by breakdown" means that you have to disassemble and then clean them individually (not very sure on this but since you have in comparison with CIP, it sounds logical)
