English term

there is a sense

English Social Sciences Media / Multimedia
"It is such a liminal state between fantasy and reality that can be created by the boundaries of soap opera gossip networks. There is a sense, in this unruly world, in which pleasure can transgress the bounderies, and that transgression is brought about by laughter."

I'm a little bit confused about this phrase but here is how I understand it:
This is an unruly world but there is a sense in this world and it is in the fact that pleasure can transgress the boundaries and this transgression is caused by laughter. Does it make sense?

In this unruly world, there is a sense in which .. If you rearrange the sentence this way, it may be easier for you to understand:
In this unruly world, there is a sense in which pleasure can transgress the boundaries, and that transgression is brought about by laughter.

Although it is not completely devoid of the signification "meaning".
Try reading it know:
In this unruly world, there is a sense in which pleasure can transgress the bounderies, and that transgression is brought about by laughter."
in a sense = (not quite, but almost) "in a certain way"
