German term

Einschubkörper

German to English Tech/Engineering Architecture building within an existing structure
This text is about adapting an old barn to a new use without destroying the old structure. They put in an "Einschubkörper" -- I do not know what that is, can anyone help?
Proposed translations (English)
3 plug-in unit
3 Insert

Discussion

Helen Shiner Feb 2, 2020:
Hmmm I’m afraid ‘insert module’ doesn’t sound right at all. Too close to the German in a very literal sense. As Wendy says, is there any evidence of it being used in an architectural context?
Wendy Streitparth Feb 2, 2020:
Are there any reliable references for this solution, other than in an electrical sense?
Steffen Walter Feb 1, 2020:
Perhaps ... ... a new module/unit/addition embedded/integrated in(to) the existing building/structure. Please provide the complete German sentence - I second Helen's request.
Helen Shiner Feb 1, 2020:
Suggestion I’ve seen numerous references to modules “nested within” existing buildings. I don’t know if you need to stick with a noun or can rephrase. Anyway, please provide the sentence including this term, preferably with surrounding sentences, so we can help you properly.

plug-in unit

I would suggest "plug-in module" or "plug-in unit".
It would be helpful to have more context context though.
Note from asker:
Thank you, K. Isaac, That looks pery plausible! The whole text is very short, and about this subject there is only one sentence, so I cannot give more context. But I have seen it -- they made the entrance area inside the old barn into a hall with a staircase and elevator, and it´s all in that box they put in.
