Source text - English Hi, the name’s Finn. You may be wondering who I am, and to be honest I’ve been trying to figure that out myself for the past twenty something years. We’ll be getting better acquainted over the coming months as I bring you my radical views on the latest Xbox goings-on. Introducing my new monthly feature ‘Finn Speaks’ (drum rolls, curtains lift and rapturous applause…or… perhaps not).
A revelation
As I reached into the refrigerator this morning to find butter for my toast, something dawned on me. The future seemed a long way off, and already I was trying to bring it closer to me – dreaming about my next holiday/short-break/weekend/doc’s appointment. Something (anything) to allow me a little ‘quality’ time to myself.
As I did this, I realised my life was getting sucked out from under my nose and squeezed from the air around me. It was a chilling thought, and as I reeled in panic from the cool glow of the fridge, I realised one other significant thing. I was clean out of butter.
We should take time to appreciate what is around us, and what has gone before - which (quite by chance) provides me with a tidy lead-in to my next section...

Ciao, mi chiamo Finn. Vi domanderete chi sono e, a dir la verità, sono vent’anni che cerco anch’io di dare una risposta a questa domanda. Ci conosceremo meglio nei prossimi mesi, in cui vi proporrò le mie idee estremiste sulle ultime novità di casa Xbox. Vi presento la mia rubrica mensile ‘Parola di Finn’ (rullo di tamburi, apertura di sipario e un applauso scrosciante… o… forse non esattamente così).
Una rivelazione
Questa mattina, mentre mi appropinquavo al frigorifero per cercare il burro per il mio toast, mi si è accesa una lampadina in testa. Il futuro era sempre lontanissimo, ma stavo già cercando di renderlo più a portata di mano, immaginandomi le mie prossime vacanze, il mio prossimo break, il mio prossimo week-end, il mio prossimo appuntamento dal dottore. Qualcosa (qualsiasi cosa) che mi regalasse del tempo “qualitativo”.
Così facendo, ho capito che la mia vita mi veniva rubata da sotto agli occhi per essere gettata al vento. E’ stato un pensiero agghiacciante e mentre scappavo in preda al panico dal bagliore freddo del frigo, ho messo a fuoco un’altra cosa significativa: ero rimasto completamente corto di burro.
Credo che dovremmo tutti prenderci del tempo per apprezzare ciò che ci circonda e ciò che ci circondava fino a un momento fa, il che (guarda un po’ che coincidenza!) mi fornisce un perfetto legame con la prossima sezione…

Hi, I’m an Italian translator/editor. Thanks to several periods of study in New York, London and Woking (yes, the anonymous small town 37 km from London :)), I read, write and speak a fluent English. I also hold the University of Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE).
