As a child, I was fascinated by the rhythm and beauty of the language I heard Mexican neighbors speaking. In college, I explored my interest in Latino culture through formal study, leading the Spanish Club, and volunteering in the Latino community. I also discovered a penchant for proofreading in my native English and writing in Spanish. Despite all this, I had no intention to use my language skills in a career, seeing it as a hobby more than a path to a career. I double-majored in Biology and Spanish and planned to pursue a career in Biology. After two years of working in an environmental lab, I realized I did not want to be stuck in a stale lab for the rest of my life. I learned about the field of translation from a family friend, and I went back to school soon thereafter to study translation. I’m now very lucky to be pursuing my dream profession, meshing my passion for the Spanish language and Latino culture.
