So good to know I'm not alone Feb 28, 2007

My husband chides me for watching the most silly TV programs to wind down. He also chides me to drink (too much) of a good wine. And others can't understand that, after a whole day in front of the computer and reading and typing, I actually find reading at the end of the day relaxing.

Thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone out there!

Good food and good wine... Feb 28, 2007

... in an attempt to revive fond memories of my source language country (Portugal), the greatest paradise on earth.

Now that’s got to count for some sort of ongoing professional training. What better may to rekindle the soul of your source language?

A little bit of everything Feb 28, 2007

I try to do a little bit of (almost) everything; any physical activity followed by a hot shower, good wine and a delicious meal, perhaps some reading, a movie or an interesting conversation.
In an ideal world I'd go to sauna more often and I'd have a 60 min massage every day (I said "ideal"...).
On ugly days, I just don't unwind and I go to sleep with a stiff back ...

Taking care of my 4-year old son Mar 1, 2007

Luckily there are children around. In my case just one. But his presence in the late afternoon/evening forces my mind away from work and PCs.

He's not independent, he wants company, he needs to be fed, he wants to play. We read books together. etc.

There is no way to keep thinking about work when there are children around the house!

No end... Mar 1, 2007

I spend my days switching between translator mode, mummy mode, cook mode, doctor mode, cleaning woman mode, psychiatrist mode etc...

"Translator mode" is limited to very strict time frames - 3 hours in the morning, then again from 8 p.m. until I cannot keep my eyes open any more.

"unwinding mode" is not part of my BIOS

sports Mar 1, 2007

I was surprised to see so few votes for sports. Having said that, a nice bath with a glass of wine after a long day is a wonderful thing. For sure this is not realistic every day.
I picked sports because it is the most important way for me to wind down and the most likely to get pushed aside due to lime limits. Sitting hunched over all day makes my back hurt without excercise in between. So I try to make a point of scheduling sports during the week. Luckily I have the option to ride a horse any time, a great place to go mountain biking or rod riding right outside the front door and a fitness class to teach on the side which doesn´t allow for excuses. It is a nice way to balance life... and oh yes, there is family life too!

Sports vs wine Mar 1, 2007

I do try and do some sport every day. I play tennis and do a dance class and also go swimming on my own a couple of times a week. If I can't do this I at least try and go for a bit of a walk. However, unfortunately when the work starts piling up it is generally this part of my life that goes out of the window first. When the pressure is really on I feel very lucky to get half an hour infront of the TV with a glass of wine before bed.

It's right what you say about scheduled activities.......... it's far harder to make excuses when you've signed up to something every week/paid in advance!!! I find that if I can do something anytime then I invariably don't do it as often as I'd like.

You are so right. Plus I like a glass of wine and some evening jogging if weather is acceptable.

My salvation is a shower right before bed, then some reading to get my mind off track. I like Harper's because it gives me food for thought, in small doses, so I don't nod off in the middle of it.

With a toddler to tend to, a house to maintain and two (luckily complementary) work schedules, my husband and I are basically in perpetual motion.

And if there's any "being" being done, it sure isn't at night...

Good sex Mar 1, 2007

A hot bath and good sex are good for mind, heart and the soul. I wonder why there are so many pictures of female members with babies? How were they made?

In memoriam
Usually... Mar 1, 2007

after midnight, when I stop working, I wash the dishes, walk the dog, watch a silly tv-programme while having a drink, go to bed, read a chapter and leave earth for a couple of hours. As you see, my nighttime is full of sensation and suspense.
