I would like to prepare the glossaries and do the necessary terminological research, especially if the project called for several translators.

I have a question to you, zkt.
That what I would love to do, and in the past I have volunteered to provide glossaries for such team works.
But I never asked payment for that, as I feel these glossaries are for our common property, and for our own use.
However, if the client or outsourcer wants that (though I've never come across such case so far), I (we) must charge for that.
What do you guys think?

Project management:
Simply because I love the communication, negotiations, coordination. Love finding, and then working with, dedicated, professional freelancers, and motivate them to cooperate and get the client something really good. Love it when the translators come together and really work as a team, love getting the client to cooperate and turn them from sceptical into respectful and even enthusiastic. And of course, the kick of getting it out in time, and then the final "than... See more Project management:

I voted "Other". I would like to translate and/or proofread, but not do the project management part, which excluded the "Any of the above" option.

I said "translate" as that's what I do. I used to do a lot of Project Management (not in translation) and it seems to me that Susan van den Ende forgot to mention the "headaches" such as when: customers bring deadlines forward; introduce additional documents, volume or requirements while maintaining the same (already tight) deadline; or maybe translator(s) miss deadlines; customers complain in the hope of extracting a discount, etc.
That said, my more limited experiences of PM in translat... See more I said "translate" as that's what I do. I absolutely agree. I do not like working on large projects either.
Personally I prefer smaller projects, no larger than 3,000-4,000 words. It helps me focus and keep my speed up. I lack the discipline to successfully carry out large projects with five or six figure word counts, and I absolutely loathe projects with multiple translators. (I have never experienced one that was well-managed, the few I have participated in always ended up with several errors and inconsistencies and no time to correct anything. Absolutely horrible experiences.)
I also feel the monotony of a large project lowers my mood and work morals... I much rather do four quick jobs a day than work on the same text for a month..
