I certainly earned more, but it remains to be seen exactly how profitable the year was. In France we pay enormous social charges (especially obligatory retirement contributions) and these take a couple of years to work their way through the system. I really have very little idea how they arrive at the figures and may be in for a nasty surprise if I've gone over a threshold.

Both in economic terms and in the quality of clients. This last quarter specifically has had some nice surprises for me. I can only hope that the global economy will continue to improve and provide even more opportunities.

even with the economic problems. I got bigger and better jobs, made some new contacts. I did have to slow down for a while due to an illness in the family for most of april but was very busy most of the year. Also my rates are higher now.

Until the last quarter, 2009 was by far the worst year in my 17 years of freelancing. Then the work started coming in in October.
In November and December I made 40% of my income for the whole year, which finally puts me ahead of 2008.
I'm wondering if some of the people who have had good years are still getting established in the profession. It makes sense that their income would increase as their client base grows and they get more efficient/proficient. Also, the sit... Also, the situation may be different depending on the fields that one specializes in. My areas were definitely hit by the recession; I have no doubt whatsoever that that was the source of the slowdown.

Started freelancing part time officially in 1987 and full time in July 1999. It is the only income here so it has to be profitable enough to live - more if possible.

I also picked up a few new clients who have worked out well.
The work has been intellectually interesting, and I have one project that has monthly updates. It's nice to have something that's constant.
