Well, yes, I probably am, depending on your definition, but what I mean is I hate the use of the lazy affix "-aholic" to describe any kind of persistent behaviour.
Nowadays we have chocaholics, sexaholics... etc and I think the notion is spurious, because unlike some people with drink or drugs, with translations you CAN always "just say no".

... no more but no less than a chocaholic, walkaholic, travaholic, internaholic and probably some others.

I have been called a workaholic (mostly by my grown-up children) but I like what I do and I am free to do as I please...

From my observations of myself and a few friends of mine, many (if not most) workaholics are actually quite lazy. Usually too lazy to get a regular job. Sooner or later, however, the sloth yields to greed (if you are sufficiently well off) or need (if you aren't), so workaholism suddenly kicks in and keeps you up and running until you collapse from exhaustion. Then you do nothing at all... until you notice your resources are wasting away, and the cycle is repeated.

...but my husband does. It is hard to integrate the lives of a freelancer and a standard office worker. Because I work at home, it is more obvious when I am stressed and working extra hours, whereas someone who works in an office can leave their work there.
I think the more significant factor is that every job which I do needs to be of the highest quality that I can produce. I think the more significant factor is that every job which I do needs to be of the highest quality that I can produce. While my husband is very good at what he does, he has greater and lesser priorities. As long as he meets the guidelines on his annual performance review, he will get a raise*. If I just 'phone it in,' even once, my reputation will suffer.
*well, he should get a raise. As it is, his company is having such a tough time that he will have trouble getting a raise no matter how well he does. ▲ Collapse

Anton makes a good point!
A workaholic isn't just someone who works hard or a lot.It's someone who can't stop working, who obsesses over it 24/7 and does nothing else, is addicted to or obsessed with work. That's not the same as just working a lot or working long hours.

I wrote sometimes but I don't think I am in the clinical sense. There are times when i have workaholic work habits, like now when I'm in the midst of a large involved project. Or when I'm so overloaded I have little time for 'fun'. Or there are times when I don't really want to do anything else because I'm very motivated. I feel driven to accept work. The head of a translation service once said to me: "If you are not available even once, we put you at the bottom of our list." His comment left a lasting impression.
I also like the feeling of earning money to pay for the things I want. After the bills are paid, I start to get greedy for more money to buy extras, like a vacation or stuff for the house.
Also, I like to collect clients and countries--see how many I can add to my list.
