My working day is governed by school hours, so starts when the school bus leaves our drive at 08:30 and ends when it deposits my son back into my care at 15:30!

Usually around 8 hours on average, depending on workload. It depends if you count administrative tasks, which take me forever to do, rather than translation work per se. The other day it took me almost 2 hours to prepare 3 invoices ...

Very interesting poll, thank you!
In my case, it completely depends on work load.... My working hours are all over the place. Sometimes, I finish as late as 2 or 3am, especially when there is a bit time difference with my clients. I am working on trying to put some balance into my schedule.

Second, this is production work time, when I have the work. If I counted contacting new clients, promotional activities, study time and professional correspondence the numbers would be much higher. In my own mind, I include 'administrative/billing' tasks in 'production time'; this is a business.

My best strategy seems to be a morning session, an afternoon session, and an evening session. I aim for a certain amount of productivity per day rather than a set amount of hours. After a while, my brain becomes a gooey mass, completely unsuitable for deep thinking. There is no point in putting in hours at that point.
During crunch time the breaks are shorter, and when the deadlines are light I might skip the evening session. I enjoy being able to set my own hours and the breaks ar... Not I used to.
I worked 12 hours normal. But not any more.
I am cutting down jobs as I need to priotize what is valuable to me. Life is too short to ignore other imperatives

At least 12 hours a da, if not 14. Just too much to do, with an hors lunch break. Its not only translating, its also all of the other stuff like writting invoices, and loads of other office work which also hasto be done, but like Jean said, "who is counting?"

As Mike stated, this includes the time for replying e-mails and accounting tasks.

6am - 8pm.
yeah obviously this includes: lunch, picking up my son from school, some sigarettes.
My working day is not only translation, I teach (a couple of hours 4 days a week) so I have to go and teach, prepare lessons, evaluate exams.
so, all the work related activities take 14 hours a day.
