I never accept rates in foreign currency.
For foreign clients (not from european coutries / €uro) who wish to pay with another currency, I write my invoices in €uros and indicate the current exchange rate on the invoice.

Sooner or later rates balance!
For what comes on my USD account, I wait until the exchange rate is good enough to my taste. Meanwhile I spend only what comes on my EUR account...

My rates in other currencies than EUR are higher to take into account the currency risk. Small changes won't affect my rates, only big changes will.
However, I hardly ever work for customers outside of the eurozone.

At the moment my clients are in Spain and I am in the UK. The euro has steadily climbed against sterling (except in recent months) since I started freelancing so there has been no need to adapt rates. It's odd hoping that your own country's currency will weaken!

I always bill in my client's rate, so yes, exchange rates do affect me. I will adjust rates 2 or 3 times a year to compensate.

My rates and, therefore, my income are definitely affected by long-term forex trends. More often than not the stronger the dollar the better my financial situation, but I live in Russia )

I have tended to keep my euro rates constant, and slightly higher than my UK rates because I am the one taking the exchange rate risk. For many years I suffered badly from sterling being high against the euro. In recent years the euro has been a lot higher, which was good from my point of view, although it has dropped in recent months. The problem is of course that when you get paid the exchange rate may mean that you are paid much less than you expected on invoicing (or much more!).
As I can't keep changing my rates, what I seem to end up doing is choosing which jobs I accept judiciously in relation to these rates. This year I have worked for more UK clients than in recent years because of this. The low rates offered in some countries exclude my working for a lot of agencies in those countries anyway. ▲ Collapse

I do the same as Muriel, I know more or less where the CAN dollar stands at any time compared to the US dollar or Euro and I may charge a couple of cents more or less so that I still get about the same as usual.
