Many times Dec 24, 2010

Because it is much easier to take 3-5 days off many times than 2-3 weeks at once.

Get it when you can Dec 24, 2010

I also tend not to consider taking 2 or 3 weeks off at a time. As Szymon has said, it's easier to find a couple of days here or there. I took this past weekend off (the first in a long time) and it was as if I had been away for 2 weeks!

I'm sure taking tomorrow and the following day (St. Stephen's/Boxing Day) will also seem like a vacation to me.

It's true... Dec 24, 2010

I am sorry to hear that Susanna... but it's a good sign, right?!

It's true, it's easier to go away for a few days than having very long holidays... I am planning to go for 2 weeks next year but I can predict the chaos it will be!!!

And YES, my laptop is always with me and it's amazing how workaholic I am because I always end up working some hours...

Anyway, I wish next year you can all have a great time without interfering with your work, no matter

I can't believe how many of you hardly take any time off (and even if you do, you often take your laptop with you?!). Is it because you can't afford or is it because work is the only thing that matters in your life?
If it's a matter of money, I guess I can understand (even though that means you should drastically raise your rates!), but otherwise...

Some translators could be alone, with babies to grow up and no help.
No holidays, no spare time, difficult life.
And rates and money are not priorities.
At least, not in the translation world.
For example.

I take a 3-4 weeks' full vacation in February every year. That means NO computer, no business e-mail, nothing, nada, zilch. A true vacation.

Besides that, I take several short breaks during the year. By "short break" I mean that I may decide to visit my parents (we live 500 km apart) for a couple of days, for example, and thus reduce my workload a bit in order to be able to enjoy their company, but I'm still working and most often than not, my clients may not even be aware that I'm

Greetings!

As many as I can Dec 24, 2010

I usually take one two- three-week vacation and 8-9 one-week breaks during the year. I share my main holidays with my husband (who's not a freelancer) and we usually go someplace nice and far. On my shorter breaks I usually travel to see my family o with friends.

I prefer to work really hard while I'm at home and then have plenty of time to get out of the office.
