We don't earn that much, or most of us anyway. We're not high-flying lawyers or business execs

Why the heck would I do that? Nov 3, 2012

Wouldn't do it even if I had money to burn.

No way! Nov 3, 2012

Mr. Ikea did my kitchen, but my office is far too personal for someone else to tell me how it should be organized.

The day when I could afford to even contemplate such luxury is a long, long way off! And, in any case, I'm perfectly happy with what I've designed and installed myself!

Sometimes just a flat "no" doesn't does justice to the spluttering belief a question like this inspires. (Insert pithy riposte of choice).

Thanks for the chuckle Nov 3, 2012

My office at home was designed by the number 1 specialist: me.

I would never let an "outsider" decorate my office or any other area of my home even if I had the money to do so.

I have a long-standing argument going with the husband. I want to set up a large desk and shelf space - just for me and my work!! How self-centred am I, right? - and he says we don't have enough space so there's poor me working at the family desk!

However, I regularly consult with Mr. Ikea, waiting for just the right mini-sized yet enormous desk combo to come in...... no luck yet!

For those like me, who count Mr. Ikea as a personal friend, check out Ikea Hackers for some great, home-bodged work spaces..... oh what a dream.....

Just imagine, if you can, a site for professional interior designers. It has a feature where questions are asked and a number of answers are suggested. You know what's coming, right? If you don't, the question is this:

Did you employ the services of a professional translator to translate the last thing you needed translating?

Makes you think, doesn't it? It made me think!

Based on the analysis of a feng shui expert I asked an interior designer to propose an optimal furniture arrangement for my working room.

In the current arrangement I can keep one eye on the door and one eye on the city's skyline. Looking at the clouds or moving flocks of birds outside makes me feel calm, helps me think.

My working desk has the shape of a shortened banana.

My working desk has the shape of a shortened banana.

Since my room is the coolest and darkest in the house, I keep part of my orchids here after flowering, to recuperate. After developing new flower buds, they can be placed back in other rooms.

Feng Shui, always! But... Nov 3, 2012

The chocolate placed on the right side of my desk helps me keep my Chi energies flow, the teacup just in reach of my left hand provides me with the necessary prana. But the best feature is this: http://www.abelsantiago.pt/fotos/produtos/a_5454020.jpg

Looks like a garden fence with a power cable and keeps my feet warm. No interior designer would accept something as ugly as this to be a part of their perfect interior design. And I would never want to get rid of it. Therefore I will have to spend the craploads of money that I store in my cellar, right next to the potatoes and the coal, for something else. Maybe I could have a professional inventor invent a device that throws pieces of chocolate in my mouth, voice controlled. And a heated keyboard...

Funny question, though. I will have James the butler answer it in my behalf right after he watered the orchids...
